Custom Cart Engineering Scales Peanut Butter Brand to $70k/Month
Performance Timeline
Unlike many e-commerce businesses that rely on one-time purchases, this fast-growing premium peanut butter brand had something extremely valuable: high-intent repeat customers. The products were exceptional, and the demand was clearly there.
However, they were spending approximately $15,000 per month on Meta ads to generate roughly $30,000 in return. The founder assumed they needed to buy more traffic to scale. Our technical audit revealed the exact opposite. The advertising was already working, but the website architecture was creating massive friction throughout the impulse-buying journey.
The Forensic Diagnosis
Food and beverage purchases are heavily impulse-driven. The longer a customer has to think, scroll, or wait, the lower the likelihood they will complete the transaction.
When we analyzed their mobile traffic, we found the user experience was breaking down. Oversized hero sections were pushing critical "Add To Cart" buttons below the fold. This bloated architecture was dragging the Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) down to a sluggish 5.4 seconds. Users were reaching the product pages but abandoning the site because the buying journey simply required too much effort.
The Engineering Overhaul
We did not replace old apps with new apps. We removed the third-party dependencies entirely and engineered native solutions directly into the Shopify theme to prioritize browser speed and user psychology.
- Native Flavor Selection: Originally, users had to jump between separate product pages to compare Honey Peanut Butter with Chocolate Peanut Butter. We built a custom, lightweight flavor selection system directly into the main product page, allowing instant switching without page reloads.
- Cart Drawer Engineering: We completely rebuilt the cart experience to maximize Average Order Value. We engineered a dynamic free shipping progress bar, integrated one-click quantity adjustments, and added smart bundle recommendations natively into the cart drawer.
- The Ghost Script Purge: We ruthlessly deleted the legacy popup software, expired countdown widgets, and dead tracking scripts. We removed the heavy sliders and optimized the image delivery pipeline to drastically reduce JavaScript execution time.

The Mathematical Reality
What makes this project so powerful is that we never increased the advertising budget. The traffic did not change, and the products did not change. Only the technical experience changed.
By removing the accumulated technical debt, the Largest Contentful Paint dropped from 5.4 seconds to an incredibly fast 1.4 seconds. Customers could immediately view products, switch flavors, and trigger the cart drawer without waiting.
Within just 30 days of deployment, the store conversion rate skyrocketed from 4.3 percent to 10.1 percent.
